New York Yankees at Toronto Blue Jays Odds & Picks

Written May 12, 2009 by Jordan Haimowitz

yankees-blue-jays-preview-051209The New York Yankees will look to get back to .500 tonight as they face off against the AL East leading Blue Jays. At 15-16, Yankees fans are getting restless. The amount of money this team spends on players they should never have a losing record at any point of the season. A quick side not, for all you NYY fans who want to use the injury bug as an excuse, don’t. When you sign aging players to long term contracts, that is on you if he gets hurt, not a viable excuse. With those negatives said, A-Rod comes back and crushed the first pitch he sees and C.C Sabathia throws a CG victory in the same series. Cano is having a wonderful year and who would have thought Johnny Damon was going to be the most clutch and consistent player for this team. He has nine home runs and 25 RBIs while hitting .314 from the plate, unreal. But, the story line tonight is a doozy. A.J. Burnett takes the mound for his first start against his former team and what do you know, his counter part is none other then “The Doc”. Burnett this year is 2-0 in his first six starts with a rather high 5.26 ERA. I can assure you this, if that earned run average holds up in this game the Yanks will have no chance. Robinson Cano will play a key part in how this offense goes tonight. I expect Damon to be over matched and A-Rod is the only other hitter I see posting a threat.  Tuesday’s MLB odds are posted and they show the Blue Jays at -135 over the Yankees and the total set for 8.5 runs.

The first place Toronto Blue Jays sit at 22-12. They have had a dream start to their season. Tonight though, they will start to really get battle tested. The jays have had a rather easy schedule to start the season and that played a major role in where they sit. That and Roy Halladay that is. But we will get to him in a moment. Their have been a handful of guys who have been clutch for Toronto so far, we will start with Aaron Hill who has hit eight homers with 29 RBIs while hitting a superb .353 from the plate. Another up and comer has been Adam Lind who is hitting .333 with six home runs and 31 RBIs. Vernon Wells and Alex Rios have provided leadership on and off the field as they have each brought a great power/speed combination to the table. So the offense has been stout. Now, on to the pitcher they call “The Throwback”. Roy Halladay is a flat out bonafide stud. Through his first seven starts he is 6-1 with a 3.29 ERA. He is not your every day sissy pitcher who after five innings goes to the club house to ice his shoulder. He has went seven innings three times and eight innings three times this season. He gets to face his student tonight. The man he taught his craft to (or at least tried). Roy had six starts against the NYY last season. He only went 5-1 with a 2.40 ERA in those starts. The Yanks also hit a whopping .211 off him. Expect him to dominate yet again.

Haimo’s Hot Notes: The Yankees are 2-6 in their last eight games overall. The Blue Jays are 10-4 in their last 14 Tuesday games. They are 7-3 in their last ten overall. Now to the very accurate head to head match ups. The Jays are 20-7 in their last 27 games against the Yanks when Halladay takes the mound. The UNDER is 8-3 in the last 11 games between the two when they play in Toronto. Folks, You are going to be watching the future 2009 AL Cy Young Winner tonight is Roy “Doc” Halladay. Burnett is no slouch himself. Expect the Jays to show the Yanks they are for real while Doc dominates in impressive fashion. Well, you knew it was coming, this is my BEST BET of the night. Don’t miss this one.

Betting Line: New York Yankees +125/Toronto Blue Jays -135 & O/U 8.5

Jordan’s Picks: Blue Jays -135 & UNDER 8.5

(Blue Jays is the BEST BET)

Ugh, that darn Mets bullpen along with the despicable managing decisions of Jerry Manuel cost us a sweep last night as the Braves put on an offensive flurry late in the game. A very unfortunate break as we were sitting real pretty. It is a long season though and those things happen. We hit the Braves +1.5 runs with ease to keep the pain very minimal. Tonight we have a healthy card of games, I’m ready to cash in. Who’s with me?
