Yankees at Marlins Betting Lines & Picks

Written June 21, 2009 by Jordan Haimowitz

yankees-marlins-preview-062The Yankees are 38-30 and currently three games behind the Red Sox in the AL East. Their hitting struggles as a team continues to grow and is quite perplexing, or to be honest, pathetic considering the money they spend. The lone RBI in yesterdays 2-1 loss was off a Nick Swisher single. The Bronx Bombers are led by Mark Teixeira who has 20 home runs and 55 RBIs while hitting .286 from the plate. Hold the phone though, 13 of those homers and 36 of those RBIs are in the sandbox they call Yankee Stadium while his BA at home is .313 as opposed to .254 on the road. A very overrated player he is. A-roid has been pitiful since his return while Robinson Cano’s numbers are very mis-leading. He has 12 homers and 42 RBIs but none have come in key situations. The guy who in my eyes has been this teams most clutch player has been Johnny Damon. Given the fact his fielding is worse then a seventh grade girls, he has 14 homers and 40 RBIs. On the mound tonight is C.C Sabathia who has been their best pitcher for sure. He has a 6-4 record along with a 3.67 ERA. Keep this stat line in mind though, in six starts that Sabathia has had that began before 7:00 pm eastern time, he is 0-2 with a 5.49 ERA. In his three June starts his ERA is 4.37. So, for everybody thinking the Yanks are a shoe in tonight, think again, that is surely not the case. CC will give up some runs, we’ll see if the offense comes to play.  The MLB Lines for Sunday show the Yankees -168 against the Marlins with an over/under set for 8.5 runs.

The Marlins are coming of a 2-1 win yesterday over the Yanks in a game that got a brilliant pitching performance from Josh Johnson. The star talent had them on lock down all day long. Dan Uggla took Burnett deep to bring his home run total to 13 and bump his RBI number to 42. He will need his power to be explosive as the year goes on due to his poor .216 batting average. Hanley went 2 for 3 last night as he continues his hot streak. The five tool stud is hitting .328 on the year with eight homers and 34 RBIs. Keep in mind he missed time with an injury so his power numbers are a bit down. Jorge Cantu is the guy that Florida needs to snap out of his skid. He has nine homers and 43 RBIs. However, Cantu does not have a single home run or RBI in his last six games. Chris Volstad gets the nod in this rubber match and needs a big start for his psyche. He has gotten shelled in his last two outings by the Red Sox and Cardinals. Six earned runs to the Cards and eight earned runs to the Sox. But before we declare a third straight mess, lets look at these factors. In his four starts before the last two, Volstad went at least six innings. His record on the year is 4-7 with a 4.75 ERA. In four day starts, his ERA is 3.63. Perhaps the most important factor. The Yankees have this mind block that they cant hit pitchers they have not seen before. Well, here is another case of that today. Look for the kid to pitch very well.

Haimo’s Hot Notes: The Yankees are 33-16 in their last 49 Sunday games. New York is 4-6 in their last 10 games overall. The Marlins are 5-5 in their last 10 games overall. Florida is 2-6 in their last eight Sunday games. The bang for your buck here is tremendous. However, considering the line is so favorable for Florida, I will suggest something I feel very strongly on. Picks below.

Jordan’s Picks: Florida Marlins +1.5 Runs (-110) & OVER 8.5 Runs

Wow, the bad breaks continued into last night as we follow the Dodgers late inning disaster on Friday with an extra inning loss on a wild pitch with the Rangers last night as we dropped the OVER as well. Lets end this 0-4 over the past two nights with our four pack today.
